About this Project

Gradiant Australia was engaged by Peabody Energy in late 2019 to design, construct, and commission a rental Water Treatment Plant at North Goonyella Coal Mine. The completed plant provides potable water supply for the mine camp.

The plant was consolidated from three modified rental systems and connected to the existing equipment onsite (e.g. balance tanks) to minimise the project lead time. The completed plant is a multistage process to ensure the raw water is treated to applicable water quality specifications.

The main stages are coagulation, clarification, media, activated carbon and cartridge filtration followed by disinfection using UV radiation and sodium hypochlorite. Chemical dosing is used for pH correction, coagulation and disinfection.

Performance monitoring and process control are carried out by feed and treated water analysis instrumentation along with sample points for laboratory testing at various stages of the process.
